The original auction blurb said: ".40 caliber, 30" octagon barrel with an excellent multi groove rifled bore. This rifle features a tap action lock and has beautifully executed scroll engraving on the frame, cocking piece, trigger guard and buttplate tang. The left side of frame shows a lovely engraved deer which is quite large and somewhat folky in nature; quite endearing. The top of barrel is engraved "Weatherhead Walters & Co." with fancy border work. The condition of this rifle is very nice with its barrel retaining a pleasing mix of original brown finish and patina with good twist pattern visible. The action is a quite smooth silver gray patina with well defined engraving. The checkered straight grip buttstock and forend are of nicely figured European walnut and rate very good plus with some light finish added. The checkering remains strong and the forend features a pewter tip and silver wedge escutcheons. The brass tipped ramrod appears period and may well be original. The brass ball reservoir has a nicely knurled ridge along its circumference and bears a nice aged patina. This is a very nice British air rifle."
