Some Britannia statistics

With thanks to John M, who says:

I've been studying the classic pre WW1 Britannia for some years and as some may know, I have compiled a list of known examples that has incorporated a list originally started by the late Tony Williams. The list is a work in progress but to date, 158 examples of the Britannia are known to me.

Of these, 55 were distributed by Robert Ramsbottom of Manchester as the Anglo Sure Shot Mark I, so roughly 35% of known survivors are marked Anglo Sure Shot Mark I.

On 21 of the examples I have noted, the calibre is unknown.

16 rifles are in .25 calibre, so roughly 10% of the known examples are in the larger calibre.

Some are marked as .22 but I'm not convinced they left the factory in this calibre as I know some barrels have been replaced over the last 100 and more years since they were made.

Roy added:

I’ve come across 12 different variants in just marking’s alone. Also the “Anglo sure shot” has been recorded without the “R Ramsbottom Manchester” & I know there’s at least 7 rifles out there re barrelled in .22 one being a blocked .177 that was cut into half dozen pieces & welded back together

John M responded:

Yes, you're right. Markings do differ, as do frame profiles between early/late models, barrel length, triggers/guards/adjustment and of course sights. There are patterns though and I think I have recorded most of the variations.
