Coster, J H in Kanau
With thanks to Beth of Amoskeag Auctions, Inc. for permission to post these pics.
The original auction blurb said: ".41 caliber, 34" part round part octagon barrel with sixteen sided section and nicely turned rings at transition. The left side of the frame is engraved "J.H. Coster in Kanau". The action features a large cocking piece with external spring, tumbler and sear. This gun features a bottom striking plunger (plunger is now missing) and a simple brass trigger guard. The barrel and action retain a medium gray brown patina with some scattered light surface oxidation present. Markings remaining clear and legible and the leather covered butt appears to be of copper and rates good plus. J.H. Coster was active in Hanau Germany during the middle of the 19th century. An interesting and rare antique butt reservoir air gun."
