Three unnamed flask butt rifles - David Swan Collection.

 

With thanks to Rod Meek of Anderson & Garland Auctioneers (www.andersonandgarland.com) for permission to post these pics of guns auctioned in 2015.

Rifle 1:

Blurb: "A flask-butt single shot muzzle loading air gun with outside lock, valve trip lever and lever main spring trigger, the 33 1/4in. two-stage smooth and octagonal turn-off barrel with bead foresight and under mounted ramrod, the conical flask with original leather cover, 49 1/2in. long overall.

Rifle 2:

Blurb: "

A flask butt reservoir single shot tap loading .468 cal. un-named air gun, with 29 1/2in. smooth and octagonal two-stage barrel with outside hammer and spring, unusual round access plate to the sides of the action, short replaced fore-end with horn finial, the stock-shaped reservoir covered in later black leather, 48 1/2in. long overall.

Blurb: "A late 18th Century flask-butt outside lock un-named single shot pneumatic gun, the 37in. smooth bore screw-off barrel decorated with gold leaves to the breech, engraved scrolling lockplates, the lock with hammer cocking piece, heavy spring and valve trip lever under, the butt reservoir with hammered finish, 54in. long overall.
