Daisy unmarked underlevers (woodstock BB version of models VL or 770?)
With thanks to Wes. He says:
Here are a pair that came from the Daisy R&D department years ago. The one with the check piece is a BB gun, it cocks and fires. The other gun with the "repeater tube" is a non - functioning gun. Notice how one side of the forearm is checkered and the other is not. Daisy did not produce an under-lever BB gun model. These two look so much like the Daisy VL model that is a .22 rifle. Daisy may have been working on a bb companion version to the VL...
I had never came across a #770. I just found a 1979 ad with the #770, plastic stock. Both of the guns I have are unmarked. I would think these un-marked wood stock guns are Pre-production guns...
I did some more research and found the model #770 was introduced in the 1974 Daisy catalog. The #770 was not in the 1973 catalog. It was in the 1974 thru 1978 catalogs. It was not in the 1979 catalog. It was not offered with a wood stock in any catalog.
Daisy unmarked woodstock underlever (model 770 prototype?)
With thanks to Steven. He says:
I've always assumed it was a display sample or prototype of the plastic stocked Daisy Model 770...
Stock is Walnut. No visible stamps or other markings, but did find "FAJEN" embossed on the butt plate.
Bill Lawrence adds:
Reinhart Fajen, Inc. of Warsaw, Missouri made a large variety of rifle stocks, fully finished or not, your choice, and also sold stock blanks. I used their services several times and was always pleased. They've been gone for about 15 years. The infamous Larry Potterfield bought the name (and that of up-the-road rival, Bishop), but as far as I know, has never done anything with it.
