Hello all,

I own a Tell Mod. 3 which I got from my grandfather several years ago. I found a lot of pictures and interesting information about this pistol on this website. Actually a few weeks ago I didn’t know how rare this airgun is. And after looking at all pictures I found a major difference from all shown Tell Mod. 3 to mine.

All Tell Model 3 I have seen on the internet have at least these 4 engravings:

1.     On top the Tell logo and name of the weapon: Mod. 3

2.     Left side on the barrel the caliber: Kal 4 ½ mm | cal. 177

3.     Left side above the trigger the manufacturer: Venus-Waffenwerk | Zella-Mehlis

4.     Behind the rear sight the serial number.

My gun has only 2 engravings:

1.     On top the Tell logo and name of the weapon.

2.     Behind the rear sight the serial number, which is no. 369.

That’s all. No caliber data or name of the manufacturer.

Has anyone of you seen a Tell Model 3 with these engravings missing or knows anything about it?

As you can see on the pictures the air pistol is in quite good shape and it is fully functional.

I am looking forward to your answers.

Thank you very much and best regards from Munich

Florian

Hi Florian

Generally when there are inscriptions missing it's because they have been polished off during refinishing. That's not to say that is the case with your pistol. The engraving on top of the cylinder is nice and crisp, suggesting this pistol has been well looked after. But the blueing does look a little too black and shiny...

Hey Garvin,

thank you for your reply. Like I said in the text above, I didn’t know until a few weeks ago that this is a rare pistol. So I think the good condition is because nobody touched it for many many years. And like you said, there has nothing been polished off. But what do you mean with „the blueing does look a little too black and shiny...“?

@mistermunich

Florian if an old airgun is very black and glossy, it has probably been reblued. But actually I would agree with you, this pistol is probably untouched and has been well looked after.
