California M-312 air rifle ad
With thanks to D T Fletcher, who dug this out in a 1946 issue of The Sporting Goods Dealer.
Mr Fletcher says:"There's a pretty good reason for the innovative California "M-312" super BB gun: the emergency lead shortage of 1946. There are numerous articles in the SGD about the lead supply. There were labor strikes going on. Plus, lead was under strict price controls that had not changed since the start of the war; the result was that suppliers were not interested in taking on new customers. Using only steel ammo, enter the California 'M-312'."
