Diana Original Model-72.
These spectacular close up pics of an Original/Diana recoilless model 72 come courtesy of Dean.
The Diana marked version of this rifle is quite scarce and the Original one even more so. It seems to be dated
06 90, ie. June 1990. If this is correct, it would have been made shortly before Germany was officially
reunified (October 3rd 1990). Reunification rendered obsolete the "West Germany" which was stamped on the cylinder
of this rifle, so it would have been one of the last Dianas so marked.
In a sense this rifle might be more appropriately listed under "Diana pistols" in this gallery! It is based on
the Diana mod 6 recoilless pistol, which has been turned into a youth-sized rifle by adding a stock and a
shroud over the barrel to extend the sight base. It also came with a set of spacers to make it somewhat more
compatible with adult-sized shooters!
To quote Theodore L Summers, who owns a Diana version of this rifle:
<b>"The guns barrel actually stops 6 ½ inches behind the end of the visible barrel. The last 6 ½ inches really acts as a bloop tube to extend the sight radius. It came with 12 butt extension spacers..It is 34 3/8 inches long from the end of the barrel to the buttpad with 6 spacers in to extend it 2 3/8 inches. The barrel is 13 5/8 inches to the rear of the receiver. The gun fits me well as an adult with the spacers installed."</b>
