Mike D's early Weihrauch diopters
Mike says:
I have seven of the 1950's steel "turret" sights, and six of them are different! They are in order of ascending age left-to-right, the oldest from HW 55 no. 662. The front top screw on the third one is not original.
The dovetail rails on these beauties are about 12.5mm, i.e. don't fit the slightly wider "13mm" rails of Weihrauch's later cast-body sights, though I do have one that has been modified to work. The giant underside thumbwheel of the later four serves only to lock the windage adjustment.
He adds these all-steel transitional diopters based on the alloy final pattern Weihrauch sight:
The small sight on the right is for an HW 52 rimfire - it shares some parts and appears to be of similar vintage.
To my eye, the [transitional all-steel diopter is the] best-looking HW diopters! Compact, trim, and the angled chamfer along the top edges of the base is an especially elegant touch.
