I thought I'd put this here rather than in the Lounge as it is more from a pliinkiing/ tinkering point of view.
Which old guns do you find disappointing or were you disappointed with when you finally saw one or got one?
Even though I don't own one, I suppose a chrome gat is pretty disappointing. (I would actually like one to give to my Nephew) as are G2's and G10's----------but I'm thinking of better stuff than that.
Here are a few I found disappointing.
The Relum Sidelever rifle (I forget the number or name) -----which I was expecting to be like a side lever version of the break barrel or the Tornado. When I saw it and stripped it, I thought it was Chinese made it was that bad. I sold mine on to Lawrie a few days later. losing the cost of the postage. I think Lawrie has a few of these and like them. From memory it had a "finger chopper" breech.
Webley Stinger-----Well it is a gat really so I wasn't expecting much--------It was very gat like but fired bbs , with the usual Physics defying thing of the bbs bounce back faster than they go down range! Scientists need to work on the BB drive if they want to get faster spaceships. 🙂 This was the one I had to make a leather seal up for as the rubber one had swollen and it meant bbs would slowly work through the seal and fire seconds after pulling the trigger!! 😱 😱 . I gave this one to Lawrie after I got bored with it.
Pre war Diana Model 5 pistol--------The Chinky S2 is a very close copy of it (says a lot really) . They shoot high (as do the S2's and the Slavia ZVP) and they have a dirty great heavy lug on the bottom of the piston. I don't understand people raving over them.
Tell 2-----I'd almost class this as Gat like. I know some people like them but they are really low in power and not good for much other than slightly scaring a tin can at very short range-------(or maybe a racy photo shoot (pun) down Scarlett Johansson's stockiing top)
Bsa Merlin-----I actually like the Merlin, even though they are very fragile (Like they come out of a Christmas cracker), but after reading about them many years ago in AGW, I was expecting an underlever Cadet so you can imagine my disappointment.
They are the ones that come to mind.
I was disappointed with an HW35 I bought. The barrel seemed disproportionately long and the stock too narrow at the pistol grip.
