This is one that could do with pictures putting up really and I ain't got none.

@pjb 's recent wood gripped Junior made me think of this again. On the picture there is a nail acting as barrel pivot pin. Luckily the thread in the guide is ok.

What sort of things/horrors have you seen on guns?

I've come across quite a few panel pins and ball bearings in piston washers and pins stuck to the end of cylinders.  There is the usual wrong thread screws forced into holes.   Peened over nails as  pivot pins is quite common. Screw heads glued back on to screws.  A HW 35 with a big bit of 5/16 BSF brass rod used as the rearsight adjuster. This gun also had one of those golden coloured furniture screws as the front stock screw. It was stuck out about 2 1/2 inches!   I've see similar on the rear stock bolt of a Sharp Innova.     Jubilee clips used to hold  the action to the stock is another favourite.    Various bits of rubber, tube and gunge used as breech seals. Bits of wood used as spacers on mainsprings.     Two of my favourites are a Webley Hawk that had the tang of the  safety repaired and it worked the wrong way round --Ie it would be "safe" in the "fire" position and vice versa.   The other one was a Diana G26 or 36 that had a hole drilled in the cocking arm and a wood screw through it as a cocking shoe.

Here is a more sophisticated example of someone using whatever was on hand to achieve a fix (currently on auction):

A Whitworth thread, cut " off axis " on the muzzle of a Cadet Major in anticipation of fitting a moderator/silencer/barrel weight .  Years ago so no photo available, sorry.

That is actually quite a nicely executed bodge in a way 😎
