This Senior came about not in an unusual way as such but it was a bit round the houses I suppose. It started with doing a bit of work on an old Millita rifle for Chris HWVixen. Chris owed me absolutely nothing especially considering all the help he has given me over the years but choosing to ignore me (he’s a bit like the ex wife in that respect 😏) he sent me a couple of Webley frames which he had bought from the Melbourne Airgun Fayre. One was a nickel plated Junior and the other was this Senior frame complete with trigger, sear and trigger guard.
This was all a couple of years ago now and in the meantime I have collected a few bits together for the project. The eagle eyed amongst you might have spotted that the stirrup catch is a chrome finished affair and this came from forum member JohnG in the form of a swap for a pair of replica Acvoke grips that I had cast for him. The piston was an eBay purchase, the grips I cast myself and the breech seal as always is one of a number I always purchase from David -TroubledShooter. For a long time it was basically completed but minus the barrel. A couple of weeks ago Chris came up with a barrel and linkage from a friend of his and the final piece of the puzzle was secured 😎 Guy/ggggr was interested in the barrel for a future project but kindly withdrew his interest knowing this was the last piece of a Senior puzzle for me and thus allowing this particular Senior to be born again 😎👍
My time is currently divided between Airgun tinkering and starting the restoration of a Series 3 Land Rover but today saw the long overdue Senior finally finished thanks to rain stopping play. It’s no ‘restoration’ as such, more a case of adding and fettling a number of pieces to resurrect an old Senior and bring it back from the dead. Never before have I worked on an old Wobley where everything fitted together so well without a fight 😎
Finish wise it retains a great deal of its original blueing and i wasn’t going to be the one to beggar about with that. All I have done in that respect it’s pick out the stampings in a contrasting colour and that’s about it.
Not much else to say really other than Thankyou to all the forum members who in one way or another contributed to this Senior living again 😎👍
Another one for the good guys. I admire your patience, you now have a perfect plinker. Best of luck with the Landy!
Nice to see another one up and running Phil. It is always nice when they "fall together". That shiny shiny Junior frame you sent me years ago did that 🙂 .
That barrel catch is a sintered Premier one isn't it? I've never thought about whether you could plate them or not??? You could have polished one up for FAUX plating 😉
Are you ever tempted to scuff your cast grips up a bit to "age" them a bit.
Do you remember I sent you barrel and linkage years ago for a Senior? It had been on a working gun here but the linkage was wrong (I think) and I only noticed when i compared it to another gun. I'd probably had the gun for 5 years by then. 🤔 Did it work on what you put it on or did you have to mess with the linkage?
