New BSA (I think) with a serial number 68, pre war with single bar moving to the rear to cock when broke down in the middle (what is it?)

I just bought what my research has led me to believe is a prewar BSA rifle.  The stock has the little bsa checkered area, but does not read BSA on it.  I cannot find any stamp for the BSA emblem, but it does have a bird, (I hate to say it but kind of like the NAZI Eagle), over a crown.  It appears to read "Master" over (can't read) over "Deluxe".  only stamp I can find anywhere, other than that, is the serial number, 68, by the trigger.  The sight is also a screw up and down type sight, (rear) and what appears to be a standard BSA front, (rear facing) pin type sight.  The rear sight is also behind the breakdown screw and all the others I find that look almost identical, have the sight in front of the break down screw.  Anyone have any idea what this is?  My email is xxxxxxxx, if you have any literature you may be able to email me to help.

Thank you,

Larry

Larry it may be a copy of the prewar BSA? Post some pics and it might become clear.

Yep Larry, this is definitely a copy of the BSA, probably Japanese. IIRC they carried on making these in Japan after WW2 and I've seen one marked as having been made in occupied Japan (ie by the US after 1945).

@garvin awesome, great information. Any idea what something like this is worth. I got it with a gun collection and I have a friend who buys and sells air Guns who wants to buy it, but he has a habit of buying something I’m not familiar with, making a ton of money on it, then giving me a hard time for not researching it. Well now he wants this one, so I want to research it and get a fair price, lol.

Not a great deal, I think Larry. Maybe around the same as a BSA equivalent? I doubt if your friend will get rich by selling this rifle on, though no doubt someone will have a reason for valuing it higher than another.

Hard to say what it's worth though from those pics. Much will depend on whether it's been refinished.
