Hi all I am new to the forum ...so thanks for adding me...
Just a question about a Diana Model 2 that I have just acquired ...the unit is in full working order and has the smooth grips which are quite marked and the varnish is coming away in places.
Can I ask if it devalues the gun any if I re sand and finish the wood?...I know some purists would say no leave it alone but I think its a nice little weapon and would look great with a refurb...this came in as part of a joblot .This Model 2 Diana...The Gat and a Weihrauch HW25L out of the 3 this one looks the worse cosmetically..
Thanks

I would say on a low-value gun like this, don't worry about it and refinish it if you like. Just don't overdo it with the new varnish, ie. make it too thick or glossy. An ultra-purist would probably disagree. LOL.
on the grips it is hard to say what they used it could have been just shellac you could rub them with some poly or use 3-4 coat of tung oil
the metal can be cleaned up with OOO bronze wool instead of OOOO steel wool it will protect the blue finish or what is left
